Dear teachers and students,

I’m Pattie from 2301 it is my honor to stand before you  for today’s flag raising ceremony.

The topic for today is, “Role Models and Mentorship,” is both timely and timeless. Every great leader, scientist, artist, or community member has stood on the shoulders of those who came before them—those who inspired, guided, and believed in their potential.

Role models are individuals whose qualities and actions set an example for us to follow. They may be parents, teachers, historical figures, or even peers.

Take a moment to think about someone you admire. How have they influenced your choices and outlook? Role models show us what’s possible, breaking barriers and inspiring us to aim higher.

Role models light the path ahead. They show us that success is possible, that challenges can be overcome, and that integrity and hard work pave the way to excellence. They don’t have to be famous figures; sometimes, they’re the teachers who nurture our curiosity, the parents who model resilience, or the friends who embody kindness and courage.

To take me as the simplest example, my friends around me all know that I have an idol that I like for nearly four years, his appearance in my life is like a little sun, lighting up my world, he can provide me with emotional value, and provide comfort in time when I am sad. Mentorship is a two-way street. While he imparts emotional value, I bring fresh perspectives, energy, and a chance for him to see the world anew. It’s a partnership that strengthens not just individuals but entire communities.

Mentorship as a Lifelong Journey. It is a two-way street. It’s as rewarding for the mentor as it is for the mentee. As we receive guidance from others, we also have a responsibility to give back by mentoring those who look up to us.

A true role model doesn’t just show us what’s possible; they encourage us to strive for our best selves. Think of someone who inspires you today. What values do they represent? These values, when adopted, can guide our choices and actions.
